Monumental canvases on historical and epic subjects. Sultans, heroes of folk epics, horsemen and battles, painted with broad, free brushwork.

The epic of Gorogly is known from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan and Turkey. In several versions this was the hero’s name in his youth: Rovshen, son of a wise man blinded by a cruel khan.
Before becoming Gorogly, defender of the poor and invincible horseman, the young man must pass his trials. On the canvas he walks through the crowd, past elephants and armed warriors, as if an Eastern court were weighing his every step.

Baybars was born in the Kipchak steppe, sold into slavery as a child and taken to Egypt. There he became a Mamluk warrior, and later Sultan of Egypt and Syria.
In 1260, at Ain Jalut, the Mamluk army halted the Mongol advance westward. In the painting his face rises above the pyramids and the Sphinx while the army moves below: the fate of a man of the steppe who came to rule Egypt.
